Hey fam,
Thought it might be time for an update. This will be brief though. Not much has changed with my hair except I had my first re-tightening a couple days ago. The first few pics were taken today two days after my re-tightening. The other pics were after I rolled my hair with some bendable rollers. I have gotten mostly positive feedback with my sisterlocks. A lot of people asked me if all this is my hair. I guess it's hard for people to fathom after seeing me with very short hair. I can't wait until my hair really starts growing and my locks mature. So far I'm loving every minute of this. The low maintenance is awesome!!
I wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!!!

FINALLY DID IT!!!!
Whoooo!!!!! Well y'all I finally am officially locked. It took like 12 hours. I got there around 9:30 am and we didn't finish until like 9:30pm. Geez, technically half the day. Shout out to my consultant Paulette Brown and her wonderful daughter Ashley for helping her. Without Ashley I probably would have been still sitting there right now lol. I counted them as I was taking out the braids she put them in. I have 389...I think. Having soft nice hair has its advantages when perming and doing straight styles, but certainly not when it comes to locking. They kept making comments like "well with your hair texture" and "your hair might do this and that" which was a little scary. I know this whole thing will be a process and hopefully I won't have too many problems. Overall it was a positive experience. I'm already excited and it hasn't even been one day yet!!! I feel like a new me has been born and I'm looking forward to this life.
p.s. I also posted some pics of my last styling days before sl's.

Counting down...
Hey fam,
I am excitingly counting down the days til I get locked!!! This Saturday will be the big day. I emailed my consultant about coloring my hair beforehand. She told me that if I chose to do that to try and go with a natural product. I really wanted to start out with color. I even made an appointment at a salon where they use Aveda products and everything. But I had a lot of running around to do this week so I had to prioritize some things. I'm trying to get back into school and it's been a hectic last couple of days trying to visit schools and testing and all. But I figured it was more important to visit a potential school and do some testing rather than have my hair colored. Now I know I'll have to wait until my locks are "settled in" to color them but that's ok. Anything worth having is worth waiting for. So that's that.
Random venting:
I can't believe there are so many people who aren't receptive to the whole natural hair thing. It's like in this day and age you would think that people aren't that preoccupied with what your hair looks like. I have a friend who made a comment about my hair recently. It just bothered me because I find myself explaining to people why I wear my hair natural and I shouldn't have to do that. I feel like this is my choice of hairstyle and you should accept that like I accept yours. How would you feel if I asked, "why do you wear your hair in that tired looking style all the time?" or "why do you insist on using relaxers when they are obviously damaging your hair?" Maybe it's just the type of person that I come across to be that people feel like they can say anything out there mouth to me. It's cool- I know I will have a lot to deal with when I get sisterlocks. Whether it's good or bad I know people will have comments. I'm ready!!!
Anyway, I've been wearing my hair out. It pretty much just looks like a messy fro. The last time I put a lot of effort into styling was a little over a week ago. I cornrowed my hair. I was really proud y'all cause I haven't done it in a while and it came out so neat. I used to cornrow other peoples hair but not my own. For not being able to see that good in back, it looked pretty good. I'll post pics of it. 3 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. I just saw on the news that this man actually beat a one year old baby in the face in Canton, OH. What the hell is this world coming to?

ok i lied
Hey fam,
This is not a lengthy installment just thought I'd post some pics of my last attempt at a natural styling. Yeah I lied, I did not keep my hair in a twist out. I attempted bantu knots and this was my "bantu knot out". I think it's really cute, but it looks kinda dry. If I do it again I'll definitely use some kind of moisturizer also. Well that's about it-counting down to Nov 15!!!

Back from B-more
We just got back from our trip home Saturday. It's different having natural hair and I got different reactions from everyone. I would think that guys like girls to have relaxed more tamed hair. But guys in Baltimore City seem to dig the natural hair thing which is surprising to me. I was in the barbershop with my cousin Tiff who now keeps her hair cut close and natural since chopping off her locks. These guys in there were saying how nice my hair looked. My cousin Sonnie was like "I love it," and my cousins wife commented on how good my hair looked natural. Then she started asking me about my haircare routine which made me feel pretty good. Two of my friends really loved it also. My friend Tiffany was like that is really funky. I thought that was funny. Now for the other comments-my uncle made a comment about me looking scared or sticking my finger in a socket or something like that. My best friends mother was like "what you rockin' a bush?" And my mom didn't really say so, but when she really likes my hair she will say something about it and this time she never did which leads me to think she didn't. It's cool tho-you take the good with the bad. Oh also my mother-in-law said "you're hair looks really cute like that," and my grandma was like "is that your natural hair?-it's growing out real nice,"
So overall I got more good comments than bad. And it's getting closer to me joining the wonderful world of locks. I can't wait!!!

I've made up my mind
So that's it y'all. I finally made up my mind to do it. I just emailed my sisterlocks consultant and told her that I'm ready. I will be hopefully getting them installed sometime next month. Wooo!!!! I'm so excited. I guess today I realized that having natural hair doesn't mean low maintenance. I had this cute idea for a hairstyle, but when I tried it I didn't like it so much. So I had to change my idea and two strand twist the back of my hair for a twist out. Hopefully it'll look ok for the weekend. We're driving home tomorrow. I can't wait to see all my family and friends. B-more here I come!!
I finally talked to my cousin Tiff. She called me today and gave me the green light. She was like yeah I think that you should do it. She just said that she wouldn't have the patience for sisterlocks. She said she started hers with braidlocs. She also said she was maintaining her own hair for a while which is very encouraging because I do plan to take the retightening class. I don't know if I would have even have the patience to do it myself, but if it will save money I sure will try. She said that she liked her locks while she had them, but then it just got to be too much. As you can see from the picture her hair grew long. She was like locks are hot in the summertime.
"It feels like you wearin' a wool shawl on your neck,"
I thought that was too funny. Anyway she told me that our cousin Valerie actually has sisterlocks. So I'll probably try to contact her and see what her perspective is. Anyway I guess that's it for now. Wish me luck -
