Counting down...

Hey fam,

I am excitingly counting down the days til I get locked!!! This Saturday will be the big day. I emailed my consultant about coloring my hair beforehand. She told me that if I chose to do that to try and go with a natural product. I really wanted to start out with color. I even made an appointment at a salon where they use Aveda products and everything. But I had a lot of running around to do this week so I had to prioritize some things. I'm trying to get back into school and it's been a hectic last couple of days trying to visit schools and testing and all. But I figured it was more important to visit a potential school and do some testing rather than have my hair colored. Now I know I'll have to wait until my locks are "settled in" to color them but that's ok. Anything worth having is worth waiting for. So that's that.

Random venting:

I can't believe there are so many people who aren't receptive to the whole natural hair thing. It's like in this day and age you would think that people aren't that preoccupied with what your hair looks like. I have a friend who made a comment about my hair recently. It just bothered me because I find myself explaining to people why I wear my hair natural and I shouldn't have to do that. I feel like this is my choice of hairstyle and you should accept that like I accept yours. How would you feel if I asked, "why do you wear your hair in that tired looking style all the time?" or "why do you insist on using relaxers when they are obviously damaging your hair?" Maybe it's just the type of person that I come across to be that people feel like they can say anything out there mouth to me. It's cool- I know I will have a lot to deal with when I get sisterlocks. Whether it's good or bad I know people will have comments. I'm ready!!!

Anyway, I've been wearing my hair out. It pretty much just looks like a messy fro. The last time I put a lot of effort into styling was a little over a week ago. I cornrowed my hair. I was really proud y'all cause I haven't done it in a while and it came out so neat. I used to cornrow other peoples hair but not my own. For not being able to see that good in back, it looked pretty good. I'll post pics of it. 3 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. I just saw on the news that this man actually beat a one year old baby in the face in Canton, OH. What the hell is this world coming to?

I colored my hair before I locked up. Basically I dyed them 2 weeks before and used a deep conditioner protein treatment 3 days in a row to prevent breakage and dryness since I knew that I couldn't use conditioners anymore. My hair was just fine. I went back and colored it again 6 months after my install and a few more times after that before they matured. Not the best idea, but it's my hair and I can do what I want with it.

it's starting to look much better the more I do it
